Nigerian Dating Website

Nov. 10, 2009

As promised, here's my take on www.sexynaija.com. This is a series so be sure to check out the first 2 articles on Nigerian dating websites.

First article is at http://fabnaija.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/dating-websites-for-nigerians/
Unfortunately, I don't have good news about sexynaija.com. It's simply infected with bugs and viruses and you should watch out if you use it. There seemed to be a few nice people on there (mostly located in Nigeria), but not a bad site all in all.

Responses

  1. What do you mean by bugs and viruses?
  2. it means if you visit the site, make sure your PC is well protected as the site itself is not and can cause viral infection of your own PC.

Tips for Choosing a Good Bridesmaid

Nov 2, 2008

Happy Holidays!!!!

With Halloween and trick or treating over, it's officially the holiday season and if you're getting married next year (congratulations by the way), you should be planning your wedding now. Today, I have put together some tips to help you with the all important task of choosing the bridesmaids for your wedding.

Please read on and enjoy!!! Don't forget to check out fabnaija.com for a checklist on preparing for Nigerian weddings.

In most cases, I truly believe that being a bridesmaid is one of the biggest honors a bride can bestow on her friends. It says: I value your friendship. It says: on the most important day of my life, I want you by my side. It invites you to celebrate with her……rejoice with her……join her in ensuring that the day is all about her………that it fulfils her childhood fantasy………the fantasy most girls have of a perfect wedding day.

For a bridesmaid, a friend's wedding can be a very humbling experience. It's indescribable, the sheer joy of watching a couple become one…….especially after witnessing the journey that brought them thus far. The fact that as a bridesmaid, you get to see this…..the consecration of this union, standing next to her at the altar is………………….there are no appropriate words to describe it.

Despite the obvious love and close friendship between the bride and her bridesmaids, the journey to the altar is not always the smoothest one. The obvious point of contention between the bride and her bridesmaids is the dress. There's a general consensus that bridesmaid outfits are rather hideous, despite the genuine intentions of the bride. This is a rather bitter pill for bridesmaids…..especially the younger ones…….to swallow.

Sometimes the bride cannot be blamed. Indeed, I don't envy the task of a bride. It is almost impossible to satisfy everyone on your bridal train, especially when each one has a different taste in clothes, has different body types, etc. In addition, the material that most bridesmaids outfits come in, are quite ugly….and hella shiny. The end result is a rather expensive, UGLY outfit that no sane person would wear again, unless with the intention of being ridiculed…………..or perhaps, going to a high school prom.

And then, there are brides who have NO GOOD INTENTIONS WHATSOEVER, or have very questionable tastes………..i.e, their real intentions are to ensure that their bridesmaids look "funny." Recently I was at a wedding where the bridesmaids dresses looked like throw-up (no kidding, the outfits were really hideous) and their hair………..someone accurately described it as a "bird nest." In a situation like this, conflict between the bridal train and the bride is inevitable. So, I have tips to help avoid conflict:

For The Bride: Tips to Having a Happy Bridesmaid.

1. No………is No. It's not Personal

Do not read too much into her refusal to be your bridesmaid.

2. Avoid Control Freaks and those who have problems taking orders. A woman who loves control is quite unlikely to relinquish control to you, especially about her appearance. This woman will undoubtedly cause conflict. Let it go, for the sake of your friendship.

3. An itemized list is your best friend. Letting your bridesmaids know ahead of time, precisely what your expectations are (the clothes….preferably the picture of the clothes as well, the shoes, the jewelry, the hairstyle, etc) will eliminate any future arguments. The bridesmaids know ahead of time how much it will cost (both financially and emotionally), and hence have the option of declining the position. At the end of the day, you will be much happier.

4. Show some appreciation. Let's be real, being a bridesmaid costs a lot of money. And brides, despite your good intentions, the outfits are usually UGLY and TOO LOUD…………..and yes, they will never see the light of day again.

For the Bridesmaid: TIP to Keeping Your Friendship

Shut up and play nice. It's her day, her pictures. Let it go.

Leave a comment about your own bride or bridesmaid experience!!!

Keep reading and remember to check out fabnaija.com for information on Nigerian weddings. We make your search for a fab venue extremely easy. We tell you which venues allow you to bring your own caterer and the capacity of each venue is also listed.

If you've worked with a caterer, decorator, wedding planner or other vendor in the past, please take the time to visit fabnaija.com and leave a comment about the vendor.

Much love!!!!

Nigerian Dating Websites Cont'd

October 27, 2009

so…the other day, I was talking about dating websites that could work for Nigerians. I really mean to focus on Nigerians in the States. I said I was going to checkout www.datincycle.com and I sure did. It's not bad. I see what they are trying to do.

One small issue, though, they are simply not there yet…so while the concept is good and will probably attract people in the future, it simply does not boast many members that you can connect with right now. Other partial concern, there are very few members outside of Nigeria. Accordingly, the website is probablyonly helpful if you're looking to meet someone in Nigeria.

However, checkout datingcyle.com for the Articles on dating, marriage, sexuality, etc.
By the way, if you decide to join a dating website, I think it's imperative that you use proper English. Just take the time to write properly and to edit what you've written.

First impressions last long so it helps if someone who's checking you out online does not have to wonder if you just made a mistake or really can't put a five-word sentence together.
Next up, www.sexynaija.com. I'll let you know about that

Dating Websites for Nigerians

originally published October 19, 2009

Here at fabnaija.com, we are interested in not just weddings but the whole wedding process and everything that brings you to that great day – The Wedding Day! As we are currently in the "Engagement Season" if you will, and being single myself, I've been checking out dating websites to see if there's any I can recommend for my fellow fabNigerians.

As you may expect, it takes time, effort and some diligence to actually browse through and determine which of the many websites out there are worth checking out. I think internet dating can be fun and safe if done properly. At all times, please be careful if you decide to date online!
With that little bit of preaching done, I've tried a few websites and here's my take on them.

- www.afrointroductions.com: I actually think this is a decent website. Clean and easy to use. If you're looking to meet a Nigerian, this one does not really have a lot of Nigerians when compared to the other Nationalities, but the site is decent and easy to navigate. It's also quite easy to find the few Nigerians that are on the site. I am quite shocked, though, at the number of Nigerian guys on the site who are over 30 and only have a high school education. 'not quite sure what to make of that, but that's just something I noticed and thought I'd mention about it.

- www.nigeriansconnect.com: don't bother. it's boring and pictures look weird and very few people seem to be using it now anyway.

- www.nigeriansingles.com: I'd heard about this one before, but now it's gone. Not sure what happened to them

The next one I'll try is www.datingcyles.com. This one looks good at least from the front page. I've not registered or anything yet, but as soon as I do, I'll definitely let you have the gist. If you've tried out any, please let us know your take and suggest some to your fellow fabNigerians. I heard there's a lady in Atlanta who runs an executive dating site for Nigerians. If you find the site, please let us know. If we don't find any really good one by the end of the year, we'll just go ahead and create one!

Thank you and happy Halloween in advance to those who celebrate!!

  1. One Problem with this dating websites is the money required before you even begin discussions. Most are unwilling to pay and so a lot of profiles sit there doing nothing
    • money talks right. everyone ….ok most people…. on afro introductions are "Standard" members, which means they can't send e-mails to a "potential." The guys should step o. It does not cost that much…just $20/3 months and you could be talking to the woman of your dreams!

  3. Hi! just came accross this site NCSN – http://www.ncsnonline.com via facebook ads. Is it the new site you are talking about? what is your opinion about it?
    • it's a beautiful site (www.ncsnonline.com), but there aren't that many people on there yet. It also seems to have mostly NIgerians located in Nigeria so if that's where you live, it may not be a bad place to search. I think it's funny that LGA (local government area) is one of the search criteria. just interesting to me is all.
