What's the famous saying: When life gives you lemons make lemonade. If you take this approach during the recession, you might actually find that the recession has a positive effect on your love life in 3 major ways.
1. More Time to Find The One: If you are in the worst case scenario because you've suddenly found yourself out of a job or your hours have been cut at work, you may suddenly find yourself with more time on your hands that you did not have before. No longer required to work late hours, you may have more time to go out to your place(s) of social interests, be it clubs, church, libraries, coffee shops, etc. You may even find yourself with more time to volunteer.
More time for social activities could not only mean you have more time to catch up with your friends and family members, it might also mean you have more time to meet new friends and who knows….meet the One. So keep an open mind and even if your career is not going well and it might take forever for things to pick up, there might be a bright side to all this extra time on your hands.
2. Finding Out the Real Person: The recession might help your love life if you're dating because now that money is tight, you might be able to figure out if you and and your "intended" can hang with each other through the tough times or if that special person is just with you for the money. Most people can promise to be with you "in sickness and in health" when you are actually healthy or "for richer and for poorer" when you are in fact rich. If things are not going well, this might a chance to see how your "intended" handles financial stress and whether or not you want to move forward with marriage plans.
3. Enjoying The Best Things: "The best things in life are free," or at least so they say. With the recession, here's your chance to focus on the Best things in life. The small things, the free things, the things that sometimes get lost in all the financial enjoyment.
Here's your chance to find out what's most important to your date and focus on providing those things during a date instead of simply spending money lavishly. Perhaps focus on talking and finding out more about each other instead of going out spending time and money with others but never really talking to each other.
All in all, the point is life is what you make it, so make it good.
