Recent Nollywood Reviews www.fabnaija.com

July 16, 2009

As promised, here's a review of some of the more recent interesting products of Nollywood and Gollywood. You can check out more movie reviews @ http://www.fabnaija.com/african_movies.php and also tell us what you think about the movies.

Love My Way Grade B+
Genevieve Nnaji, Jim Iyke, Tonto Dike
Predictable story line but very well executed by excellent actors. Nnaji is generally not nice to her boyfriend (Jim Iyke) and she decides to go on a trip without prior information. She's involved in a car accident and her boyfriend is called to the hospital. However, after she returns home, she starts acting really nice and her boyfriend begins to wonder what has happened to her even as circumstances start to prove there may be more to the story.

Picture Perfect Grade B
Jackie Appiah; Chris Attoh; Lydia Forson
Basically, this is a story about the love lives of 3 good friends. One gets married after 18 months of abstinence and discovers her new husband is unable to, how shall we say, "perform." The other is deceived by a married man and the third falls in love with someone she did not expect. One of our editors swears this is the best movie ever, but simply put – It Is Not. The movie is too slow and you can generally predict the ending. However, it is quite well-acted and sometimes funny.

Strength of Faith Grade B+
Van Vicker, Tonto Dike, Uche Jombo
Van Vicker plays a poor apprentice who works hard to become a successful businessman. He reconnects with his girl from the past and decides to marry her but his mother thinks she's below his status and opposes the marriage. Very entertaining movie, especially if you like Patience Ozokwor type actresses. Definition of Love Grade C Van Vicker, Jim Iyke Don't bother with this one. Just a complete waste of time. Girl meets boy. Girl becomes blind in an accident caused by boy. Boy decides to fix it by giving girl his eyes. Boy's parents think he's absolutely crazy.

The Playboy Grade B-
Yvonne Nelson, Jackie Appiah, Nadia Buari, Majid Michael
Ok, I don't like this movie and I'd rather just skip reviewing it, but it was quite popular so I feel I have to say something about it. As the title suggests, the Playboy is dating 3 or more women at the same time. He decides to go for the ultimate game in the person of Nadia's character. Her father is skeptical about the relationship but they eventually get married. That's when the ultimate player realizes he's been played. Extremely over acted especially by the Playboy who seems to think every line is a Shakespearean experience.

Tears of Womanhood B+
Jackie Appiah, Majid Michael, Kalsoume Sinare

Even though the title might be a little bit of an extreme description of what actually happens in the movie, it's a pretty good movie all around. A strict father disowns his son for marrying someone of a different religion. The mother silently suffers for years as she's forced to choose between her love for her husband and her love for her son.

Dating Corner

July 6, 2009

Happy July!! Hope the 4th holiday met you well (like they say).

We would like your comments on the next phase of our website. We are considering unveiling a Dating Corner for our distinguished fabulous users. There are many dating websites, but fabnaija is considering an exclusive site that would benefit professional, young and fabulous Single Nigerians under age 40 who are living in the States. We may branch out to other countries later but would like to concentrate our efforts on the USA for now.

We understand that can't have fabulous weddings unless we bring fabulous people together and we'd like to create a Dating Corner on Fabnaija.com. Please provide your comments below and/or send them to the editors@fabnaija.com.

We are excited about this next phase and thank you for your support and wonderful encouraging comments.
